2026 International Exchange | HKMU School of Nursing and Health Sciences

During our visit to Hong Kong, we also had the opportunity to hold an exchange session with the Hong Kong Metropolitan University School of Nursing and Health Sciences, where we engaged in in-depth discussions surrounding life education, grief care, and palliative care.

In recent years, the faculty has maintained a strong interest in the development of life education. They expressed deep recognition and appreciation for Xiao En’s continuous efforts in transforming frontline life service experiences into educational practices. At the same time, both sides also looked forward to the possibility of jointly participating in the promotion of life education in the future, fostering more interdisciplinary and cross-cultural collaborations.

Throughout the exchange, special attention was given to the perspective of “understanding death from life” within life education. Through engaging with topics surrounding death, the hope is for students to gain a deeper appreciation of the value of humanistic care, learn how to face life and understand relationships, and cultivate genuine empathy and warmth in their future caregiving roles.

We are deeply encouraged to see more overseas educational institutions beginning to recognize the significance of life education, gradually embracing its value and even expressing willingness to actively participate in its promotion and practice.

This not only signifies that life education is steadily entering the international educational landscape, but also reflects how the philosophy of “living with death in mind” is beginning to resonate across different cultures and professional disciplines.

When life education transcends geographical, cultural, and professional boundaries, what it brings is not merely intellectual understanding, but also a renewed ability to reflect on life, face loss, and care for others with compassion.

Perhaps this is the true significance of life education — that after understanding death, we learn more deeply how to truly live well.
