Step into RÉN RÉN JI: A Public Curatorial Initiative on Life

Step into RÉN RÉN JI: A Public Curatorial Initiative on Life

Life Education extends beyond talks, classrooms, and the written word.
It comes alive in the meaningful encounters between people.

From this reflection, RÉN RÉN JI was born. It is neither a market nor simply an Enlightenment Ceremony, but a public curatorial initiative that grows out of Xiao En’s years of dedication to life education. Guided by the theme, Bond: Where Lives Meet, and Meaning Emerges, RÉN RÉN JI will take place during the Enlightenment Ceremony at Xiao En Memorial Park.

The memorial park is not merely the setting. It is an essential part of the curatorial experience. Every corner holds stories once lived, while every space bears witness to the connections that continue to shape us. The Enlightenment Ceremony invites us to pause, to remember those who came before us, to embrace gratitude, and to rediscover the relationships that give meaning to our lives.

At the heart of RÉN RÉN JI is not death, but the relationships that define our lives.

This year’s curation begins with five relationships: self, family, friends, ancestors, and all living beings. Together, they remind us that every relationship shapes the way we see ourselves and the world around us. The more deeply we understand ourselves, the more fully we can embrace others. As we cherish those closest to us, we also honour the legacy that flows across generations. A deeper connection binds us to nature, society, and the world we all share.

Life has never been a story lived alone.

Co-Curated by Five Artistic Teams

Art brings ideas to life, revealing the relationships that connect us all.

The five artistic teams behind RÉN RÉN JI did not begin with a creative brief. Before creating, they spent time in the Memorial Park, walking its grounds, listening to its stories, and immersing themselves in a space where life and remembrance quietly coexist. They did not rush into creating. Instead, they immersed themselves in the practice of living with death in mind.

Their experiences found expression in five interactive installations. Each one invites visitors not only to observe, but to participate, reflect, and discover their own connection with life.

RÉN RÉN JI is presented by Xiao En and 甲方营造 KAWAN Studio, in collaboration with 草草 GRASSSPACE DESIGN × THE HUMAN WORKSHOP, COLLLAB, JIRAN COLLECTIVE, 芥子纳 LOCI SEED × 舍记 DesGin Studio, PLUS ONE Design, 草稿 Draf and 一元工作室 Artscape studio. Together, they bring Life Education and art into a shared public space, creating new ways for people to encounter and reflect on life.

When art enters the Memorial Park and Life Education meets public curatorial initiative, the works become more than artistic creations. They become bridges that reconnect people with themselves, with one another, and with life itself.

What makes RÉN RÉN JI truly meaningful is not the number of people it brings together, but the diversity of experiences, professions, and perspectives that come together to create a space for understanding.

There are no right answers here. Some find comfort through the Enlightenment Ceremony. Some reflect through art. Others discover a new understanding of life through a simple conversation.

We invite you to step into RÉN RÉN JI at Xiao En Memorial Park. Perhaps, through a walk, a conversation, or an encounter with a work of art, you may rediscover yourself and the relationships that have never truly been lost.
