Funeral Services Frequently Asked Questions

1|What should I do first when a loved one passes away?

When a loved one passes away, family members may first come together to discuss the necessary arrangements and engage a reliable and licensed funeral service provider.

A professional Family Care Consultant will assist the family according to their circumstances and needs, including the necessary documentation, transportation of the deceased, location of the funeral service, funeral arrangements, and burial or cremation procedures.

When faced with a sudden loss, families do not need to understand or manage every procedure immediately. The Family Care Consultant will explain and guide you through each step along the way.

2|What documents are required when a loved one passes away?

Before obtaining a Death Certificate (Sijil Kematian) from the National Registration Department, the family will first need to obtain the relevant Proof of Death (Dokumen Bukti Kematian).

The responsible party may differ depending on the circumstances of the death:

  • If the death takes place in a hospital due to illness: The hospital will provide the relevant Proof of Death.
  • In the event of an accidental or unnatural death: The police will generally handle the relevant procedures and documentation.
  • If the death takes place at home: Depending on the circumstances, the relevant health authority or police will handle the necessary documentation.

Once the relevant documents have been obtained, the family may proceed with death registration and the necessary funeral arrangements.

3|What is a Death Certificate used for?

A Death Certificate (Sijil Kematian) is an important document required for handling matters following a person’s passing.

It may be required to access funeral facilities, obtain burial or cremation permits, as well as for subsequent administrative and legal matters such as claims on the deceased’s estate or property, registration matters and estate administration.

4|Can the funeral service provider assist with death registration and burial arrangements?

Yes.

Once the family has engaged our funeral services, the Family Care Consultant will advise on the documents required according to the circumstances and assist with the relevant procedures, including death registration and burial or cremation permits.

This helps families navigate the necessary administrative procedures without having to manage everything on their own.

5|How will the deceased be transported after passing away?

Once commissioned by the family, the funeral service team will arrange the necessary vehicle and transporting staff to receive and transport the deceased to the funeral parlour or residence where the funeral service will be held.

A family member will be required to sign a letter of consent for the transportation of the deceased in accordance with the relevant procedures.

6|What care will be provided after the deceased is transported?

A professional care team will provide the necessary Decedent Care according to the condition of the deceased, including cleansing, grooming, dressing and other required care, as well as assisting with the encoffin process.

Depending on the circumstances, families may also discuss with the Family Care Consultant whether dry ice embalmment or liquid injection is required.

As a mark of respect and care for the deceased, a female mortician will be assigned to care for a female deceased, while a male mortician will be assigned to care for a male deceased.

7|What is encoffin, and does the family need to participate?

Encoffin is an important farewell ritual in which the deceased is placed into the casket.

The professional care team will assist with the necessary procedures, while the Family Care Consultant will supervise and coordinate the process. Depending on the family’s religious beliefs, traditions and needs, the consultant will also guide family members through the relevant worship and farewell rituals.

8|Where can the funeral service be held?

Families may choose a suitable location for the funeral service, such as a funeral parlour or residence, based on factors including transportation, the expected number of attendees, budget, available facilities and personal needs.

The Family Care Consultant will provide recommendations based on the family’s circumstances and assist in arranging the necessary facilities and services.

9|How should a funeral be arranged? Does the family need to plan everything on their own?

No.

The Family Care Consultant will discuss the deceased’s background, religious beliefs, family circumstances and individual needs with the family to plan a funeral that is appropriate for both the deceased and the family.

From funeral procedures, mourning hall and altar décor, religious ceremonies, wake service and funeral ritual ceremony to the necessary items and documentation, the professional team can assist in coordinating and arranging the entire process.

10|What needs to be prepared for the mourning hall?

The professional team can plan and set up the mourning hall according to the family’s needs, providing a space for family members and friends to remember, worship and say goodbye to their loved one during the bereavement period.

The Family Care Consultant will also explain the matters that families should take note of during the bereavement period and assist in arranging the relevant religious ceremonies, necessary items and other services.

11|Can funeral ceremonies for different religions be arranged?

Yes.

The funeral ceremony can be planned according to the religious beliefs and traditions of the deceased and the family.

Depending on the family’s needs, arrangements may include traditional family and public memorial rites, Buddhist or Taoist ceremonies, Christian funeral services, Catholic funeral Masses or other relevant traditions.

The funeral service team will coordinate the arrangements in accordance with the respective rituals and the family’s needs.

12|Will someone assist the family during the wake service or farewell ceremony?

Yes.

The master of ceremonies will conduct and guide the overall ceremony, while the assisting staff will prepare the necessary ceremonial items and offerings.

The Family Care Consultant will also be present to coordinate the arrangements and guide family members and friends through the farewell ceremony, so the family does not have to manage the many details on their own.

13|Does the family need to prepare the obituary?

The Family Care Consultant can assist the family in preparing and writing the obituary according to the background of the deceased and the family’s circumstances.

When required, the obituary can also be published on the company website to provide family members and friends with the relevant funeral and farewell information.

14|What arrangements will be made on the day of the funeral?

On the day of the funeral, the funeral service team will assist the family with the funeral ritual ceremony and the transportation of the deceased.

Depending on the services selected by the family, a professional band may be arranged to perform live music, while transporting staff will move the casket onto the hearse using a customized casket cart.

The Family Care Consultant will then guide the family and funeral procession to the cremation location or burial site, accompanying the deceased on the final journey.

15|Is there any support available after the funeral?

Yes.

The end of the funeral does not mean that the family’s journey through loss and grief ends there.
