Life education can happen anywhere.
In one of the classes for Oneworld Hanxin College, students stepped into one of the most real spaces of life and death — visiting Xiao En Memorial Park and Xiao En Centre. Following the journey of The Five Station of Life’s Epilogue (缘殓殡葬续), they gradually witnessed the deep respect for life and the weight of farewell behind every funeral and memorial ceremony.
This was not an ordinary visit, but an immersive life education experience.
Beginning with a well-structured guided tour, students gained a clearer understanding of every stage of funeral and bereavement services. Through heartfelt sharing by life practitioners, and finally the reflection session themed “ Living with Death in Mind,” life education took on a deeper meaning.
There were no labels, no judgment — only an honest confrontation with the reality that life will one day come to an end. It encouraged everyone to reflect once again: How should we live more meaningfully? Learning became more tangible, and emotions became more deeply felt.
“ Very interesting, truly an immersive experience.”
“ It was not just a visit—the reflection really touched the heart.”
“ I never realized that the design behind some spaces is actually meant to heal grief.”
“ The moment I stepped into Xiao En Centre, I felt as if I was being gently held.”
“ These are things ordinary people rarely get to see, and cannot be learned from textbooks.”
“ Perhaps I will never forget this day of learning.”
“ The final sharing session, along with that piece of cake, felt so warm.”
“ Money cannot buy back the chances we once missed to cherish what truly mattered.”
“ Take care of yourself, and cherish the people in front of you.”
Indeed, many things in life can be redone, but companionship and cherishing — once missed — can never be regained.
And so, through this life education experience, remembrance began to flow, and the awareness of cherishing quietly started to grow.
What we learned was not only how to face death, but also how to live within a finite life — to love ourselves well and to cherish the people we love while they are still with us.
