Life Education Picture Book: My Beloved Grandma

Life Education Picture Book: My Beloved Grandma

A meaningful step in Xiao En’s journey of life education

For many years, Xiao En Group has walked steadily on the path of life education — always grounded in our mission, and always open to new ways of reaching hearts and minds. Over time, we have shared books, talks, and community programs. Now, we take another meaningful step: publishing our first picture book for children.

My Beloved Grandma is more than just a story. It represents Xiao En’s care for children who experience loss and grief, emotions often difficult to express or understand. Through this gentle and heartfelt story, we hope to offer comfort, understanding, and a way to begin important conversations between adults and children.

This picture book is part of our effort to extend grief support and community care to young readers and their families. It’s a tool to help children explore emotions, cope with sadness, and find loving support from those around them.

We warmly invite families, educators, and community spaces to share this story and help catch the quiet sadness that children sometimes carry, with tenderness and care.

About the Book

My Beloved Grandma is a heartfelt picture book designed to help children and adults gently explore the themes of love, loss, and remembrance. When her beloved grandma passes away, a little girl begins a quiet journey through memories, longing, and sorrow. Along the way, she learns how to face grief and rediscover the love that continues beyond goodbye.

Co-created by life and death education advocate Fong Yee Leong and illustrator Ikuwashi, with artwork contributed by both Ikuwashi and his daughter An An, the book beautifully weaves tender words with expressive illustrations.  It offers children emotional support when dealing with the loss of a loved one and provides a safe space to express what they feel.

We believe that every child’s sadness deserves to be seen and gently embraced.
We hope this book becomes that caring pair of hands.

Perfect for:

  • Families reading together at home
  • Teachers guiding classroom discussions
  • Community programs and workshops
  • Counsellors supporting children through grief

This book also helps adults open meaningful conversations with children about “ loss ” and “ love ” at the moments they need it most.
