One Song, One Card: A Heartfelt Response to Life Education

One Song, One Card: A Heartfelt Response to Life Education

This was more than an encounter centred on life education. It was a meaningful exchange — a journey of learning met with heartfelt appreciation and a warm response.

Once again, students from Foon Yew High School (Kulai) embarked on a life education learning journey at Xiao En Memorial Park and Xiao En Centre.

For each visit, they begin their journey as early as 3:00 a.m., travelling for hours before arriving at Xiao En Memorial Park and Xiao En Centre. Despite the long journey, they spend an entire day immersed in an intensive, marathon-style learning experience before boarding the bus home in the evening.

It may be a long and tiring day, but the students arrive with genuine curiosity and a willingness to learn, ready to explore the many dimensions of life, death and farewell.

As always, the Life Education team shares the learning and experiences of “Understanding death from life. Living with death in mind” with the students, offering a holistic exploration of life and death through the Xiao En Memorial Park and Xiao En Centre.

But this time, the learning did not simply end when the tour came to a close.

Towards the end of the programme, the students came forward, prepared to share something of their own. Together, they sang “Till We Meet Again”, the theme song of the Sunshine Women’s Choir.

The familiar melody and heartfelt lyrics seemed to gently place a comma at the end of the day — a moment of farewell, but not an ending.

Then came another heartfelt surprise.

The students presented handmade cards, each one carefully prepared and written with personal messages for the Life Practitioners who had accompanied them throughout their learning journey.

Each card carried a simple but meaningful gesture of appreciation — a warm response to everything they had experienced and learned that day.

Perhaps this is what life education truly looks like.

It is never simply a one-way transmission of knowledge. When learning and emotions flow between people, a song and a handwritten card can become powerful reminders that life can touch life.

May we continue to learn and grow — in loving and being loved, and in understanding both what life can and cannot hold.
