Life Line Volunteers Visit: Because Taking Care of Yourself Matters Too

On the journey of helping others, we often focus on how to offer support, yet sometimes forget that caring for ourselves is just as important.

In a recent life education learning tour, we were honored to host a group of dedicated volunteers from the Life Line Association of Malaysia — individuals from diverse backgrounds who all share one role: being helpers.

Initially, we thought what we could offer was simply a fresh perspective — an invitation to stand in another’s shoes. Yet from Xiao En Memorial Park to Xiao En Centre, and finally to the reflective moment of “living with death in mind,” what unfolded was a day of life touching life.

We realized that the ability to turn inward with gentleness, to “catch ourselves” in moments of vulnerability, is profoundly warming and empowering. Only after grounding ourselves can we carry the strength and spaciousness needed to “catch others” — with more clarity, resilience, and heart.

May we continue walking the path of helping with both solid professional grounding and a calm presence — for ourselves and those we serve.
