Life Education Never Stops: New Batch of Form One Students from Chong Hwa KL Visits Xiao En

Perhaps thanks to the school’s ongoing commitment to life education, this year’s first group of Form One students from Chong Hwa Independent High School arrived at Xiao En Centre with a deeper curiosity and readiness to engage with the topic of life and death.

Before they began the guided tour of the life education spaces, some students had already heard about the Silent Mentor program and wanted to learn more. Others knew the literal meaning of “living with death in mind,” some came with journalistic intentions to interview the Life Practitioner, while others, influenced by films, arrived with a growing interest in the funeral service. Some came searching — after a personal loss — for what a meaningful farewell really means.

Here are some of the reflections they shared:
“I learned about the five stages of grief and emotions.”
“The flow of emotions might be the start of making peace with myself.”
“The Silent Mentors, with their silent bodies, have nurtured countless medical professionals with warmth.”
“Respecting life does not end with death.”
“The dignity offered at the final stretch of life is deeply moving and profound.”
“Reflecting on funerals I attended as a child, I now understand the meaning behind the rituals.”
“Being close to life and death makes me appreciate the preciousness of relationships, and the spirit of filial piety arises naturally.”
“This was not just a regular guided tour — it led us to reflect deeply on the meaning and value of life.”

Life education does not aim for immediate results — instead, it is a gentle, continuous watering. Like a seed quietly sown in the heart, with time and nurturing, it may one day bloom into a priceless awareness of cherishing life.
