In 2023, through KL Chong Hwa’s “Life & Death Exhibition,” students gained a deeper understanding of life education. The stories shared by Funeral Care Consultant and Clinical Care Specialist, who spoke of witnessing the poignant moments of life and death, inspired admiration for these Life Practitioners.
From Form 3 to their Upper 1, they carried this mix of familiarity and curiosity. Finally, they had the chance to visit Xiao En Centre, a space for life’s completion. Here, they fully immersed themselves, embarking on a journey that embraced life through the reflection on death.
With a foundational understanding in place, their learning deepened, evoking empathy and cultivating a profound reverence for life.
“Can I try pushing the stretcher for the body?”
“Even without a body, it’s surprisingly heavy.”
“Now I understand how challenging a Life Practitioner’s daily work truly is.”
“I didn’t realize the purpose behind the floor-to-ceiling windows was so therapeutic.”
“Grieving individuals can find healing through light.”
“Looking out at the world still in motion reminds us that life must go on.”
“I witnessed the diversity of life and death.”
“The deceased were once like us, continuing their stories in different ways.”
“I felt that grief can flow; tears don’t have to stay frozen.”
“While complex emotions persist, we can learn to expand our hearts.”
As the year ends, this final session of life education brings a sense of fulfillment, seeing your reflections and insights.
May we carry this meaningful activity into 2025 and beyond…
